Hi,

The past couple of weeks my computer, which is a Compaq Presario CQ5107C has been freezing while I'm on it and while I'm not even using it without any programs open. The driver has also failed a couple of times while using it, but a message pops up saying something close to 'driver recover successful'. Also, when I shut it down, it takes forever to shut down and somtimes when I try shutting it down properly it goes to blue screen and says that one of the drivers has failed, which I am guessing it's my NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller driver. My GetForce driver has been updated to the newest update and there is no problem that I know of with that. I have read a litte around that my ATA driver may slow down and start doing this by freezing and going to blue screen if it malfunctions. I'm running on a Windows Vista 32-bit processor and have yet to update to my Windows 7. I was looking for any possible way to get an update to my ATA Controller driver anywhere without having to pay for it. I'm guessing that I'd have to update to Windows 7 to possibly get any update. Would updating to Windows 7 delete any programs/personal files off my computer and stop the freezing if I were to do that? Any help would be awesome because I have been looking everywhere and have yet found the best solution. Thanks.

Go to the Windows 'Control Panel' and locate 'Add or Remove Program' or 'Uninstall a Program'. Now locate the driver/drivers and uninstall it/them.

When I uninstalled the drivers and used the link you gave me to reinstall the update, it uninstalled my updated GForce graphics back to the 2009 update. So I installed the GForce update back to the 2012 update and I used a Driver reader to check and see if my ATA Controller Driver Controller ha not been updated which it says it hasn't been because the reader says the newest update is in 2010. Now the 10/100 Ethernet Mbps Ethernet #2 is out of date after I did the ATA update after deleting the first drivers. Originally, it was working fine before I uninstalled the drivers. How would I reinstall a 2012 update if there is one for that Ethernet? Also, how can I tell if my ATA Controller has been updated to the most recent version by viewing it on my computer? It didn't seem like there was any change when updated. It seemed like it just had to start over and I had to reinstall the graphics card. Unless I did it wrong somehow, it seemed to cause more trouble than it should have. Let me know, thanks.

I have a HP Pavilion Media Center a1632x Desktop Computer that has a A8N-LA (Nagami2) motherboard that is based on the nVidia 6150LE / 430 chipset. Your Compaq Presario CQ5107C Desktop Computer has a M2N68-LA (Narra5) motherboard that is based on the nVidia 6150SE / 430 chipset. Both of these chipsets are covered by the link I had previously provided. Windows Vista / 7 update has 9/2011 updates for the nForce SATA and network drivers but the details indicate that nVidia released these in June/July 2009. Since Microsoft and nVidia don't have any newer drivers, the drivers from the previously mentioned download are the most current. Please go to Window 'Device Manager' to view the version number and date of the installed drivers.

I am using a Driver Manager to check and see what drivers need updating on my computer and that's how I found out I needed an update on both drivers, the ATA and Graphics driver. Now when I check it, it still says I need an update for the ATA driver, the PCI System Management device driver, and the 10/100 Ethernet driver. Before I updated with the new drivers, the PCI was fine and the Ethernet was fine.

The Driver Manager I am using says the newest update for the PCI driver is 3/22/2010 from 7/29/2009 update and the Manager says there is a 3/4/2010 update from the 7/30/2009 update of the Ethernet driver. This Manager says I'd have to pay to update it to those as most would do, but is the Driver Manager wrong? Is there an update for those? Thanks.

Any driver manager that makes you pay is wrong. NVidia is the manufacturer of these devices and their driver download system is likely to be the most accurate. Again, the downloads I have provided you are the most current.

Ok. So far, my computer is now working with the update and I have had no freezes nor has my internet gone off yet. I believe the update has worked.
