The improvements in gameplay are visible with the amount of micromanagement involved in this sequel. In the predecessor we needed to sit idle through turns hitting the end turn button while our actions were being performed and had to wait for them to be completed. That is not the case now, you will constantly be doing something or the other, there is no free, idle time anymore.
Improvements to how the interface works also add to the smooth experience. Zooming out to the strategic map directly from the 3D view keeps you engrossed compared to opening another menu item to access the same thing. They’re then followed by a jaunt along a top of a train – the stages we struggled with the most due to the restricted field of movement, which makes avoiding sawblades tricky. Total War Warhammer was and is great even today but the developers are going the distance with this sequel and are doing everything possible to make it better. It feels like they picked up where they left off in the predecessor to hone the campaign even more. This is by far the best Total War title we have seen. I know, that is what we said about the predecessor but we see improvements to that so this one is the best version now.
There still remains room for betterment in the political and diplomatic systems but they are surely getting there. The new factions are great and even better is the campaign with great presentation and design that is head and shoulders above anything from the franchise we have seen. One thing that we are eagerly waiting for is the Moral Empires Campaign which the developers have promised will combine factions of both the games released. Can’t wait to see how they implement that.
